Connection Between Skin and Earth Pencil, Prisma Color, and Sharpie on Mix Media Paper  5” x 10” “Our skin is what stands between us and the world”  - Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses, p. 68 Statement:  After reading this quote, I instantly visualized the design of a finger smashing or touching the world. I feel like this piece helps switch perspectives to understand that the little things they do can affect the big things. Whether that can be applied to climate change or other social issues, is up to the viewer.  The Bond Between Earth and Soul  Prisma color on Mix Media paper 10” x 8” “Hair deeply affects people, cab transfigure or repulse them. Art 21: Barbara Kruger

Image
The artist I chose was Barbara Kruger.  Video link: Part of the Discourse   The two phrases I chose to describe her and her work, are available and selective special awareness. Availability was a concept she expressed great importance on at the beginning of the video. She wants art to be available for all kinds of people in all kinds of places. A Few of My Favorite Things.

Image
In this image I arranged 7 items strategically, to display my favorite things. The first few items are a water bottle and a bathing suit top . These are to symbolize an active lifestyle that I try to live. I love to swim, surf and go to the beach. I always carry my water bottle everywhere, to stay hydrated and healthy. The next items are chapstick and earrings. I included the chapstick to portray my love for self care and taking care of myself more than just eating and sleeping. The earrings goes along the same lines of self care. I love to buy jewelry and dress up outfits with the items I get. I feel like it can portray what kind of person you are and the energy you give off. The photograph is a picture of my boyfriend, Noah. I included this because it shows my favorite person on Earth and all of the fun adventures we have. The mustard orange book is a sketchbook to symbolize my love for art. I am a Fine Arts major and art has always been a large part of my life. The final ...
